QR code best practices

Most QR failures come from low contrast, tiny print size, missing margins, or outdated destinations—not from the generator.

Design & print

  • Keep a quiet zone (empty margin) around the code
  • Use dark modules on a light background
  • Do not stretch or skew the PNG
  • Print large enough for the scanning distance
  • Raise error correction if you overlay a small logo

Destination hygiene

Prefer HTTPS URLs. Use dynamic QR for campaigns that change. Add a short call-to-action near the code so people know why to scan.

Test before you scale

Scan with iOS and Android, in bright and dim light, from the intended distance. Fix issues before packaging or event print runs.

FAQ

What size should a printed QR be?

As a rule of thumb, larger is safer. For arm’s-length scans, many printers start around 2×2 cm or larger; billboards need much more. Always test.
